In the end of the 18th century, gold diggers spent good parts of their earnings on beer in Monterey County . Brewers often immigrating from Germany, saw business opportunities by opening simple breweries. They used the German lager yeast at elevated temperatures, and invented a new style of beer. People called the style ”Steam Beer” due to the huge steam clouds rising from cooling pans at the top of the brewery.
Monterey is an amber colored mild and pleasant beer, brewed with a selected lager yeast and two noble German hops Northern Brewer and Hersbrucker. The aroma is grassy and wild flower, and in the mouth you will find roasted bread and a pleasant bitterness in the finish.
Monterey pares perfectly with warm dishes and roasted food.
